Poultry needs freedom

How beautiful you are, Syria, as you enjoy health and wellness, after being freed from the malignant disease that had oppressed you for decades. Your children will now restore to you the status and beauty you deserve.

The development of poultry farming in Syria

The 1980s can be considered the beginning of the expansion of poultry farming and the launch of relatively large poultry farming projects, most of which were undertaken by the private sector, in addition to the General Poultry Corporation, whose nucleus was based on the nationalization of the Hama Poultry Facility and its confiscation from its original owners.

This major development clashed with the corrupt laws of the former regime, which prohibited farmers from organizing their work within specialized associations, cooperatives, or unions. Now is the time for those in charge of the poultry industry to take the initiative to form local cooperatives and associations, eventually forming a national union or federation, freeing themselves from the constraints of the defunct Farmers’ Union or Chambers of Agriculture.

Major challenges await the Syrian poultry industry

With the upcoming economic openness policy in Syria, the poultry industry in Syria will find itself facing a major challenge that threatens its survival and competitiveness. It is imperative to prepare to provide the necessary elements for survival and competitiveness, the most important of which are:

1. Transforming into integrated breeding companies

From the parent stage and feed import, to hatching, feed manufacturing, broiler rearing, slaughterhouse, packaging and processing of broiler meat, and marketing to the final consumer, achieving control over all stages of rearing and production.

2. Establishing associations or cooperatives for breeders

By region: It operates collectively, as a joint-stock company, securing production requirements and marketing broiler chickens for the benefit of all members, with profits and losses being borne and distributed over the course of an entire year.

Tasks required by government agencies

1 – Activating the role of the Central Poultry Committee, after its restructuring, until the special organization for poultry farmers is formed, so that they have a fundamental role in discussing and deciding matters related to their work.

2 – After the availability of technical poultry slaughterhouses in the central governorates for poultry farming, slaughtering will be prohibited except in these technical slaughterhouses, in order to improve the quality of broiler meat, and adopt the frozen or chilled form, for trading broiler meat, within packages and health conditions, to facilitate storage and export when prices drop here.

3. Establishing an epidemiological investigation and evaluation body that will collect information from various laboratories and field physician reports, then study and analyze them, to work on limiting the transmission and spread of diseases and epidemics and preventing them, to allow for the regular import of the required vaccines.

4. Helping breeders develop their farms through soft loans to improve the conditions of existing farms. It is best to direct existing construction companies to manufacture prefabricated hangar structures that meet the required conditions of ventilation, heating, etc.

Conclusion

There are many, many details, which we leave to the stakeholders. They only need to take the initiative to organize themselves as national businessmen who contribute to the national economy and secure a healthy and safe food source.
